Glenmore tennis courts and pool
While the club’s deco-turf provides year-round play on a faster paced surface, Glenmore’s soft courts provide a pleasant opportunity to play a different kind of game with less impact on the legs and knees. During the winter months, Glenmore’s platform courts invite one to enjoy a unique and invigorating tennis game. If you have not tried this exhilarating racquet sport, you are in for a treat. Furthermore, one need never worry about getting in a game before dark; Glenmore’s tennis facilities include high-quality lighted courts so that no match will be called on account of darkness.
Indeed, Glenmore’s Tennis Center offers year-round events for players of all ages and all levels, from private and group lessons to junior clinics, evening socials and weekend tournaments. Fun and fitness await, so get out your racquet, come down to Glenmore’s Tennis Center and serve away!
Tennis Professional
Davy Hairston, Glenmore’s Director of Tennis, joined the staff in October of 2011. Davy brings with him a wealth of teaching knowledge, and has most recently been an instructor at the Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina which is highly ranked by tennis.com and tennisresortsonline.com. Davy also served as the Junior Academy Director at the Rick Macci International Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Florida and has an ongoing relationship with the IMG Bollettieri Academy headquartered in West Bradenton, Florida. Davy has an extensive amount of teaching experience for players of all ages.
Davy was a four year member of the University of Virginia tennis team during the mid-80’s. While at Virginia, Davy played #1 Singles and Doubles, and he was a two time winner of the Norton Pritchard Memorial Award which is presented each year to a UVA Men’s Tennis player based on leadership, cooperative spirit, and unselfish service to University of Virginia athletics.
His enthusiasm and knowledge have lead to the growth and success of his programs with adults and junior players. He stresses the importance of fun but emphasizes that, with improved technique, the game of tennis becomes easier and more enjoyable. “Once you see players enjoy hitting a tennis ball, they can begin to really challenge themselves and enjoy the game of tennis.”
Davy’s extensive teaching experience enables him to coach players to a higher level by tailoring instruction to individual needs and goals. His teaching philosophy is to make people better with what they have: “Unless there is a major concern or players want to change completely, they can work to improve their skills and become better players.”
Creating a social atmosphere where people can feel welcome and improve their level of play is the hallmark of a successful tennis program. Davy’s goal is to provide the best possible tennis experience in Central Virginia.
Tennis Clinics
The Tiny Tots program is continuing, and the children ages 4-6 have made great strides in their techniques of the game.
